Webmasters should master the web

I am fed up with non-standard web sites, but even more fed up with webmasters that claim they just have to tweak the simplest html to render properly in different browser versions. Wrong. Since the late 90's, all browsers have rendered standard html in virtually the same way. It's just incompentent webmasters who do not know or do not care about this.

I found a good overview of how different browsers react to different doctypes. The summary for dummies (and webmasters) is: Use a standard doctype, and you are fine.

Article: Display Technology Shoot-Out

I found a link to an interesting article on ExtremeTech. The article, or really series of four articles, compares CRT, LCD, plasma and DLP display technologies.

I own an LCD TV, so I have made my choice, but the article does present a lot of interesting details about the different technologies. After reading it, I am still convinced that an LCD TV is the best choice in the ~32" range.

First Aid is Important

Yesterday I got to a car accident site right after it happened. There were no others around who knew first aid, so people were just standing there watching. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt, and as this happened downtown, rescue services got there even before I had had the time to check on all three injured.

Having first aid training helped me act quickly, and hopefully also correctly. I was amazed at how little the bystanders managed to do. The injured and dazed driver of the worst wreck was left sitting on his own behind the wheel.

Contact your local Red Cross and find out where you can take a course in first aid.

Bad software wastes my time

There is something about bad software that really makes me foam at the mouth. Of course, every now and then it turns out I just wasn't using the software properly... But in general, there are many pieces of software that are not really worth installing. If I run into one I tend to uninstall it and forget about it.

Unfortunately, sometimes I actually have to use bad software. Even software that is virtually unusable tends to turn up on my machine. I hope to share some of my experiences, if only in the vane hope that the maker actually gets the hint.

Oh, and BTW; Blosxom does not fall into the "bad software" category. :-)
